Circulate Flatow

Already in the beginning of 1200 Poland tried to interest Germans for their country. This, however, didn't turn out very well. Only after introduction of Christianity the immigration of Germans to Poland started, the first clergymen in Poland were Germans. German colonists didn't only cultivate waste land the but they also planned towns and villages. They were not submitted to polish but to German law. Since the middle of 1300 until 1772 the district of Flatow was under Polish rule.

Starting 1349 better times came to the district of Flatow. King Kasimir III looked well after the newly acquired country. He still pulled more German settlers to his empire. German nature and culture came into the country and particularly the towns profited.

In the 14th century the cloisters competed with the kings to pull Germans to the country, and many Germans also came into the district of Flatow. In 1370 Germans lived predominantly in Kamin and the surrounding villages.

To those who would like to deal with the district of Flatow more substantially I recommend the book of "Otto Goerke" from which I have taken most of these data.

I would like to confine myself here to the most important places where my ancestors lived. Those are the city of Kamin and the villages Gross Zirkwitz, Klein Zirkwitz, Gross Lossburg, Gross Lutau, Gross Lutau, Komierowo, Salesch, Skarpi, Waldau, Schoenhorst and Zahn.

The history of the villages is only in German. If you can help to translate it, please contact me.
